Tigers eye Whitehead swoop
15 Jan 2009 - 08:18:19
Hull City manager Phil Brown has confirmed that he is hoping to sign Sunderland midfielder Dean Whitehead in the January transfer window.
The 26-year-old has made nearly 200 appearances for the Black Cats since joining them from Oxford United and has made his name as a versatile performer in defence or midfield.
Brown confirmed: "We have made an inquiry for Dean Whitehead.
"It is something we have been identifying in the past 18 months, players who can come in and strengthen the side. We have identified probably four or five players and Dean is one of them.
"As I have said, we have made enquiries and they will be ongoing during the month of January."
Meanwhile, Brown attempted to downplay his part in a touchline spat with Newcastle United boss Joe Kinnear during the Tigers' 1-0 FA Cup third round replay win at St James' Park.
"I didn't see any argument there and I don't know why they have got involved in an argument," Brown added.
"At first I get Chris Hughton coming at me and then the next thing I know Joe Kinnear is in my face, so we are then sent to the stand, end of story."
