Veteran Nigeria playmaker Jay-Jay Okocha has been allowed to leave Hull City following their promotion to the Premier League.
The 34-year-old played just 19 times last season following his arrival from Bolton Wanderers and Tigers boss Phil Brown has not allowed sentiment to cloud his judgement.
He told the Hull Daily Mail: "What Jay-Jay Okocha brought to the club is a sense of belief and ability. That undoubtedly raised the belief of the other players and the profile of the club.
"The legacy that Jay-Jay Okocha will leave at Hull City is one of success. He will be remembered for his smile, his pure ability as a footballer and for raising a club's aspirations.
"However, we are moving up to the Premier League and he only started eleven times for us last season.
"As far as I was concerned, I could not justify giving him another year based on that."
