Striker Jan focused on Tigers

Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink is refusing to give up on his World Cup dream, but admits Hull City remain his priority. The Dutch striker joined the Tigers as a free agent over the summer and opened his account for the club in last weekend's crucial 2-1 victory over Wigan. He is hoping there will be many more to follow, with the experienced striker keen to earn an international recall. Vennegoor of Hesselink has not featured for his country in over a year, but was part of Holland's squad for the 2006 World Cup and 2008 European Championships. He has now set his sights on a third consecutive major finals, but accepts that he must first do the business at domestic level if he is to force his way into Bert van Marwijk's plans. "I still have international ambitions, but for now, the focus has to be on here and scoring goals," he told the Hull Daily Mail. "I hope to be important for this club and everything that comes with it will be a bonus. "Being in the biggest league, you have the advantage. "Being at the highest level means you have to be able to compete and if you can do it there, it can make the difference." Vennegoor of Hesselink accepts that he faces a tough task in order to earn an international recall, with Holland able to boast an array of attacking talent. The likes of Klaas Jan Huntelaar, Robin van Persie, Dirk Kuyt and Eljero Elia currently set the standard, but the Tigers man feels he offers something different to his attacking rivals. "I haven't played recently but there are some very good strikers in the squad," he added. "I could name them all and they would all be brilliant players. "But maybe I think I can bring something else to the team. Maybe not even as a first 11 player, but perhaps from the bench."
