Ricketts faces cheek op
21 Sep 2006 - 10:44:06
Hull City wing-back Sam Ricketts faces more than a month out of action after suffering a fractured cheekbone in the Carling Cup clash with Hartlepool United.
The 24-year-old Wales international, who joined the Tigers for £300,000 from Swansea City in the summer, stayed on the pitch to finish the game, but is fearful that he may miss his country's upcoming Euro 2008 qualifiers.
Ricketts told BBC Sport: "I've got to have an operation to pull the bone back in my cheekbone. It's just like a dent, really, more than just a straight crack.
"I'm not sure where we go from there, whether I'll be able to wear a mask or have to wait for the bone to mend.
"I'll find that out in the next few days after talking to a specialist.
"I went up for a header with their centre-forward and he caught me with an elbow, but I don't know how accidental it was."
