Hull City boss Phil Parkinson is confident that Nicky Barmby will be a major player for the Tigers this season, despite the former England forward having only started one game to date.
The 32-year-old has struggled with injuries in recent months and was fielded in a midweek reserve team game at York City to gain much-needed practice.
Parkinson told the Hull Daily Mail: "I thought Nick's attitude was absolutely superb.
"At the moment we feel he just needs the 90 minutes under his belt rather than the training, because he hasn't had a lot of full games over the last few months.
"He missed a lot of pre-season and some months before that and the more 90 minutes he can get under his belt the better.
"The great thing about Nick is he works hard every day and hopefully he's going to make a big contribution to the team this season."
Barmby joined his hometown club in the summer of 2004 and has scored 14 times in 70 appearances for the Tigers.
