Owen hints at move abroad
22 Jun 2009 - 15:26:02
Michael Owen has confirmed that he has played his last match for Newcastle United.
Hull City have expressed their interest in signing the former Liverpool and Real Madrid striker who has endured an injury-ravaged four-year spell on Tyneside.
The 29-year-old has found the net 30 starts in only 79 appearances for the Magpies, whose relegation to the Championship was confirmed last month.
Owen told Sky Sports News: "It remains to be seen where I'm going to go. There are plenty of clubs that would interest me, but we'll see where that is, whether it's at home or abroad.
"There's been a lot of interest from abroad and quite a bit from home as well, but obviously the Premier League is where I feel I belong.
"I played a year out in Spain and enjoyed it at Real Madrid but that confirmed to me that I definitely prefer the Premier League.
"If it was to be a good English club, that would be my preference, but I've had a lot of interest from abroad so I wouldn't rule that out.
"I'm still contracted to Newcastle for a few weeks, so that's where I'm at at the minute.
"I don't think I'm going to be re-signing at Newcastle, as I don't think I'm going to be offered a new contract and I want to play in the Premier League or a top division somewhere else."
