Hull City have signed out-of-favour Sunderland defender Paul McShane on a season-long loan deal.
The 22-year-old Republic of Ireland international has fallen down the pecking order at the Stadium of Light in recent months, with his first-team opportunities further limited by the recent arrival of Anton Ferdinand from West Ham United.
Earlier this summer McShane had vowed to stay with Sunderland and fight for his future, saying: "I want to stay at the club and I think I can play every week.
"It's probably the hardest period I've gone through in my career so far. I've done everything, I've out-trained everybody, out-performed everybody, so what can you do?
"It's a hard thing to sit on the bench every week or even the stand every week when you're giving it your all. I did everything to get myself back in the side, but it didn't happen."
McShane started his career with Manchester United, while he has also played for Walsall, Brighton & Hove Albion and West Bromwich Albion.
