    Lowly Tigers turn to Dowie

    17 Mar 2010 - 10:08:32

Iain Dowie has been confirmed as the new manager of Premier League strugglers Hull City, following the sacking of Phil Brown earlier in the week.

Dowie has been handed the task of trying to keep the Tigers in the Premier League, having previously enjoyed spells in charge of Oldham Athletic, Crystal Palace, Charlton Athletic, Coventry City and Queens Park Rangers.

The 45-year-old has been out of the game since a spell as assistant manager to Alan Shearer at Newcastle United at the end of last season.

Dowie has nine games to try and save City from the drop, with Hull currently down in 19th place and three points adrift of the safety mark ahead of a trip to rock-bottom Portsmouth this weekend.

Chairman Adam Pearson had earlier stated that he felt that he had to make a change and call time on Brown's time in charge at the KC Stadium.

He told the club's official website: "We feel that we've got a quarter of the season to go with some winnable games within that.

"It's not a fixture list that's packed full of 'top-four' games, it's a fixture list with games where we would expect to get some points.

"We feel that we're best served by making the change now. That will bring a fresh face in, some new impetus and some new focus to get those 14 or 15 points that we're going to need."
