    King's Tigers transfer stalls

    04 Aug 2008 - 11:10:40

Hull City have been told by Wigan Athletic boss Steve Bruce that he is close to calling off the transfer of striker Marlon King to the KC Stadium.

A fee of £3million has been agreed between the two clubs for the former Watford striker but the transfer could stall because King wants a severance payment from the Latics.

The Tigers are desperate to boost their strikeforce and were reported to have failed with a bid for Bolton forward Kevin Davies at the weekend.

City chairman Paul Duffen told the Hull Daily Mail: "We've agreed certain things with the player and with Wigan. But at the moment the deal is locked up at the Wigan end."

Bruce had earlier said of the proposed transfer: "It's not happening at the moment and, if it's not going to happen soon, I'll probably knock the deal on the head. It's gone on long enough.

"If it's not going to happen, Marlon will be part of the squad here and rightly so, that's what we pay him for.

"There's no problem with him staying here. If the deal isn't quite for him and the player isn't sure in his own mind, it's his prerogative to stay."
