Brown defended by Horton

09 Nov 2009 - 08:25:47

Hull City assistant Brian Horton branded questions over manager Phil Brown's future "stupid" following Sunday's 2-1 victory over Stoke City.

The build-up to the match had been overshadowed by speculation concerning the future of Brown following his side's disappointing recent form.

A last-gasp winner from substitute Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink lifted the pressure on the Tigers boss, but he still opted not to attend the post-match press conference.

Asked if the result had saved Brown's job, Horton said: "I refuse to answer that question.

"It shouldn't be asked today, we have just got out of the bottom three.

"Nobody has ever put that on him and nobody has ever said that to me. We could go on a run now and nobody will talk about stupid things like that.

"He tries good things, he is a good manager who has good ideas that people don't see. He has a great future in the game."

Meanwhile, Horton was full of praise for Jimmy Bullard after the £5million club record signing finally completed a full 90 minutes.

"Jimmy was tremendous. He just loves playing football and he is just one of those people who are infectious," he added of the injury-plagued midfielder.

"In situations like this you need players to be brave, not just in terms of putting in the tackles, but in terms of wanting to get the ball and play football.

"Jimmy kept wanting the ball and he made us tick."
