Geovanni wants strike role as he hopes to erase the memories of that teamtalk

27 Nov 2009 - 16:51:45

Geovanni has had differences of opinion with Hull manager Phil Brown but the Brazilian playmaker has finally been handed his favoured role in the side. Having been shifted about - on the wings, in central midfield and in the hole behind the strikers - he has been moved into the front two.
Against Everton in midweek, he revelled in his new role as a specialist striker. And, with Hull starting to play a far more positive brand of football, the Brazilian is a happy man.
He hit the headlines with his wonder goals early last season and hopes that a shift up the field - combined with the side's new-found attacking mentality - will help him conjure more eye-catching strikes.
Wonder strike: Geovanni scored a marvelous free-kick against Tottenham
'We have improved a lot,' said the 29-year-old Brazil forward, speaking through an interpreter. 'In the last three games, we have picked up seven points. The team is playing the right way. If we keep playing exactly the same way, we will get more goals and get back on track.
'In the last game, I played up front. That is my position, the one that I like. Last season, I scored eight. I have got four goals already this season. I felt that was the wrong decision at Burnley when I had a goal disallowed - so I  should have five but we cannot change it now.'
Strop: Geovanni fell out with Brown after losing his cool when substituted
Hull's, and to a certain extent Geovanni's, demise after a promising start to their first Premier League season has been well documented, with many pointing to Brown's bizarre on-pitch team talk in at the City of Manchester stadium in December as the catalyst.
Brown was unavailable for comment on the issue on Friday ahead of the Tigers' return to Manchester, instead sending out his assistant Brian Horton to the weekly press conference.
Geovanni, though, says he hopes to consign the 5-1 drubbing they received that day to history.
Unwise: Brown gave his half-time team talk on the pitch at City of Manchester
'We have learned our lessons from that game last season,' he said. 'I wish it to be a different game this time - and that it will be like our  previous three games. The past is the past. Now we have to forget that.
'I don't know what position I'll play. But all that players want to do is play.  I have a lot of friends up there. I respect Manchester City but now I am  represent Hull City.'
Geovanni also hopes he can start forming a profitable link with fit-again midfielder Jimmy Bullard.
'He has great quality,' said the Brazilian. 'Quality  players make a difference all the time. We played together this season against Fulham in London briefly. I have never played with him for 90 minutes and want  that opportunity.'
