Folan admits red card waste
27 Apr 2009 - 13:56:44
Hull City striker Caleb Folan has admitted his red card in Saturday's 3-1 defeat to Liverpool was a wasted opportunity.
The Republic of Ireland international was sent off in the 59th minute of only his second Premier League start of the season as the Tigers' slide down the table continued.
Folan was shown a straight red card for kicking out at Reds defender Martin Skrtel.
"It does feel a bit like a wasted opportunity," he told the club's official website.
"It was a great game to come back into and I'm gutted that I've let myself down. Potentially, I'm going to miss three very important games.
"I was trying to get past the defender, but he got in front of me and was trying to obstruct me. He was holding me and I was using my arms to try and get round him.
"I don't know if the referee pulled me up for the use of my arm or my foot towards the end, but I didn't intentionally swing out with my arms or my foot.
"I thought he made the most of it. I didn't feel as though I'd made contact with him, but the referee wouldn't explain what the card was for.
"I did swing my leg, but it wasn't aimed at him. The referee didn't take it like that."
