Hull City boss Iain Dowie has been handed a boost after Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink's head injury sustained in Wednesday night's 2-0 Premier League loss at home to Aston Villa was found to be not as serious as first thought.
The Dutchman was knocked unconscious after colliding with Villa centre-half Richard Dunne and he was taken was taken straight to Hull Royal Infirmary for intensive scans, but the results were positive for club and player and he has been allowed to return home to recuperate.
However, he will sit out of the weekend clash with Sunderland at KC Stadium although he is expected to be available for their final two games of the season against Wigan Athletic and Liverpool.
A statement on the club's official website read: "We are pleased to report that the scan came back all clear.
"Vennegoor of Hesselink will now be monitored daily with the hope being that he will return to full training late next week."
