Delaney injury shocker
15 Aug 2006 - 12:45:32
Hull City boss Phil Parkinson has been hit by the news his captain Damien Delaney is facing a three-month stint on the sidelines after damaging ankle ligaments.
The central defender suffered the injury in training last week which resulted in him missing his first game in two years in Saturday's 2-1 defeat to Derby County at the KC Stadium.
The Tigers sent Delaney for an exploratory operation on the ankle where the ligament problem was discovered and he must now wear a protective boot for the next six weeks.
Parkinson, who now only has Michael Turner and Sam Collins as fit central defenders, told the Hull Daily Mail: "It's a massive blow for us because he's a very important player but we'll get over it, I'm sure. He had the operation straight away and stayed in hospital.
"I should imagine that Damien is as disappointed as we all are here to be ruled out for such a long period."
