Deal no concern for Barmby
09 Jan 2009 - 11:55:55
Hull City midfielder Nicky Barmby insists he is not concerned at not yet being offered a new contract to remain at the KC Stadium.
The 34-year-old midfielder is out of contract at the end of the current season but is not letting the uncertainty over his future affect his performances.
Barmby lost his first-team place midway through the campaign, but is now back among the regular starters.
"You sign a contract and then get your head down and try to earn another contract. That is how it works in football," said the former England international.
"It is not a problem to me, I will keep my head down, keep working hard and keep in the first team.
"It's up to the club, not up to me. I'm sure the club will say something one way or the other, so it's not a problem."
Meanwhile, Barmby is relishing the prospect of returning to former club Everton in Saturday's Premier League trip to Goodison Park.
He spent four seasons as a Toffee before moving across the city to Liverpool in 2000.
"It's a great club, a big club and it will be a difficult game for us, but we're looking forward to it," he added.
"I had four or five good years at Everton and enjoyed it immensely. I've still got a lot of friends there.
"Passionate fans, great ground, great atmosphere - it's always a tough place to go."
