Hull City's Andy Dawson has thanked loan goalkeeper Michels Kuipers for saving his blushes with a late penalty save in Saturday's 3-2 home victory over Southend United.
The Tigers looked set for an easy win when they went 3-1 ahead with just 16 minutes to play, but a late header from Tes Bramble put the visitors right back in it and disaster almost struck when Dawson conceded a stoppage-time penalty.
However Kuipers marked his home debut by blocking Bramble's spot kick and then reacting quickly to deny Jay Smith from the rebound.
A relieved Dawson told the Hull Daily Mail: "At 3-1 up, we were in control. We were playing alright and it's just disappointing that we had to win it that way.
"It was a great double save from Michels but it shouldn't have been like that. It should have been a lot more comfortable."
The result leaves the Tigers in second place in the Division Three table, just a point behind leaders Oxford United.
