Collins out for season
07 Nov 2006 - 12:42:46
Hull City manager Phil Parkinson will not be rushing in to the transfer market to sign a new defender despite being told that Sam Collins will not play again this season.
The 29-year-old former Port Vale player has been sidelined for the last six weeks after suffering a knee injury, and will now have an operation to clear up the problem.
Collins is not expected to return to action for eight months but Parkinson is remaining calm.
"We've got a while to assess where we stand, but with the return of Danny Coles recently, that's given us a quality player back in the squad," the former Colchester United manager told the Hull Daily Mail.
"The news over Sam has obviously left us short on defensive numbers again, but we'll not be rushing out to strengthen because we've still got cover.
"Whenever he's played this year he's done very well for us, so to lose a player like Sam for the year is a blow.
"But he's been struggling with his knee for a while now. It was frustrating for us, and Sam, not knowing the exact nature of the injury, so at least now it's been cleared up."
