City new boys impress Brown
23 Aug 2009 - 11:05:09
Manager Phil Brown was a happy man after seeing debutant Kamel Ghilas score the winner in Hull City's 1-0 triumph at home to Bolton Wanderers.
Ghilas struck just past the hour mark at the KC Stadium, as the Tigers won at home for the first time this year.
Fellow new boy Jozy Altidore also showed up well after coming on as a substitute just before Ghilas pounced.
Brown said after the victory: "It has been a tale of two weeks, that substitution.
"The kid (Altidore) got back into London from an all-night flight from the USA Friday morning, six o'clock. We then flew him up to the KC by helicopter.
"I looked at the whites of his eyes, asked if he was fit to play and the answer was fantastic. He was raring to go.
"It was a calculated risk that we didn't start him.
"Caleb Folan softened them up by putting a shift in for 60 minutes and allowed Altidore and Ghilas to get the headlines.
"Ghilas looked bright, sharp and hungry. He certainly looked like he had a goal in him and that's what I'm after."
