Burgess boost for Tigers

Hull City have been boosted by the news that striker Ben Burgess came through 26 minutes of the reserves' clash with Rotherham United following a year-long absence.

The 23-year-old has not featured since picking up a cruciate knee ligament injury last April as the Tigers were chasing promotion to League One.

Despite missing the final month of the campaign, Burgess ended last season as the club's top scorer with 18 goals.

The club have moved on dramatically since his injury and are on the verge of securing a second successive promotion - this time to the Championship.

The former Blackburn Rovers hit-man will be hoping his return in Monday's 5-2 win against the Millers will help him to regain full fitness in time to challenge for a first-team place in Peter Taylor's side for the new season in August.
