Brown hails Tigers' victory
14 Sep 2008 - 10:26:05
Hull City boss Phil Brown believes his players have proved that they deserve to be in the top-flight following Saturday's 2-1 victory over Newcastle United.
The Tigers were widely expected to struggle in the Premier League following their arrival via the Championship play-off final last season.
But after Marlon King claimed a brace at St James' Park, Brown's side have now picked up seven points from the first 12 on offer and currently sit in fourth place in the fledgling table.
"That's three points, seven from four, so maybe we're getting one or two monkeys off our backs that we were going to be automatic cannon fodder for going down," he said.
"I don't know. I hope it doesn't alert too many people's attention to the fact we can play a little bit, because then all of a sudden the big boys put the big guns out."
Meanwhile Brown, who hails from South Shields and played for Hartlepool United, admitted that victory over the Magpies was particularly sweet for him.
"To me personally, it means I have come back to the north-east (and won) for the first time since 1985 when I left Hartlepool, and it's a great moment for me and my family," he added.
