Brown celebrates three years at Hull as chairman Pearson calls in the auditors

04 Dec 2009 - 13:29:01

Phil Brown is looking forward to a brighter future after weathering a storm to celebrate the third anniversary of his appointment as Hull boss.
Brown took caretaker charge at the KC Stadium three years ago today but his future in the job seemed uncertain at the start of November.
With his team in the Barclays Premier League bottom three and with just three wins in the whole of 2009, Brown was widely reported to be just one bad result away from the sack.

Brown, who guided Hull to promotion in 2008 before a difficult past year, reflected on his time in charge this morning.
He said: 'It has been brilliant, first class. There have been highsand lows and to get to the highs you have to sample the lows, unfortunately, but I am looking forward to the fourth year.'

Hull's recent upturn in fortunes has coincided with the return of Adam Pearson for a second spell as chairman.
Pearson's appointment has brought a more pragmatic mentality to theclub, particularly in terms of finance, and Brown feels the pair areworking well together.
He said: 'It is a working relationship like any chairman to amanager. As a leader Adam has been there, seen it and done it. He hasgot the great experience of the previous regime at Hull City and wehave fitted in nicely together. Hopefully that will continue.'

Pearson revealed this morning that he has called in the auditors in a bid to get the club's finances in order.
The Tigers face a fine from Companies House after revealing massive losses in a report on their 2008 figures.
Speaking to BBC Look North, Pearson insisted players' wages will have to be cut, in order to balance the books.

He said: 'There is a requirement for funding over and above the income of theclub but that is under control for us. The last accounts revealed ashortfall approaching £16m.
'What is a more to medium tolong-term problem is bringing the wages down in relation to theturnover.
'We are working diligently to bring in extra finances but theshort-term is fine it's just the medium and long-term that needsattention.'
