Brown: Tigers keen on Owen
22 Jun 2009 - 07:34:30
Hull City boss Phil Brown has confirmed his interest in signing Michael Owen.
Speaking over the weekend, chairman Paul Duffen suggested his club were serious about luring Owen to the KC Stadium and Brown has now endorsed the Tigers' pursuit of the out-of-contract Newcastle United striker
Owen has endured an injury-plagued four-year spell on Tyneside but Brown believes he could resurrect his career at Hull.
The 29-year-old striker could form a new-look strike partnership with Fraizer Campbell next season as the Tigers have already agreed a £6million fee with Manchester United to sign the England Under-21 international.
However, with the England striker coming towards the end of a reported £100,000 a week deal with the Magpies, Brown has suggested that the move will only happen should Owen lower his wage demands.
"It's something that's been sounded out as a possibility, but, as yet, there's been no offer put to Michael," he told the Hull Daily Mail.
"He's got a proven track record as a goalscorer and that's an area we are keen to strengthen, but it would have to be on the right terms."
The former Liverpool and Real Madrid striker has scored 30 goals for England during 80 international appearances.
