Brown: Scoreline was cruel on us
24 Jan 2010 - 11:33:26
Hull City boss Phil Brown admitted his defence couldn't cope with an in-form Wayne Rooney after losing 4-0 at Manchester United.
The Tigers had fought hard to restrict to the champions to a 1-0 advantage midway through the second half at Old Trafford.
However, United ultimately ran out 4-0 winners with the red-hot England striker claiming all four goals.
"It's probably a cruel scoreline at the end of the day," claimed Brown, whose side remain the relegation zone.
"I think at one goal we had a foothold in the game second half and we made positive changes with regards to substitutions to try and get something from the game.
"Unfortunately we came up against a very good striker who is in-form and scored four goals today but we can defend better, no doubt in my mind we can defend better against the quality of Wayne Rooney.
"But you have got to be at your best defensively and unfortunately for us we weren't."
