Beye chase frustrates Brown
02 Aug 2009 - 14:10:44
Hull City boss Phil Brown is refusing to be held to ransom by Newcastle United over the Championship side's valuation of Habib Beye.
The Tigers have had one £2million bid for Beye rejected by the Magpies, who are looking for double that amount for the 31-year-old right-back.
Brown insisted: "To hear that he has handed in a transfer request shows the intention that Habib Beye wants to leave Newcastle first and foremost.
"Two, that he knows of our interest, and three that the transfer valuation for him is something that we're not prepared to go to.
"But I'll emphasise it again, who do you deal with at Newcastle? Is it the chief exec? Is it the chairman or is it a manager? We're not sure and therein lies the grey area."
Of Michael Turner's future, Brown added: "There's been interest for Michael Turner while we've been away but still no firm bids.
"It's one of the clubs that previously showed an interest but it's well-documented that a number of big clubs have got problems with centre-halves."
