Ashbee return boosts Pearson
20 Jul 2010 - 17:12:37
Hull City manager Nigel Pearson believes Ian Ashbee has a massive role to play at the KC Stadium this season.
The 33-year-old has not played a competitive fixture for 14 months after twice undergoing extensive surgery on his left knee.
However, Ashbee has suffered no ill-effects despite playing in both the Tigers' pre-season friendly games against North Ferriby and York City.
Pearson said: "He'll be a very important player for us this season. He was very positive against York but we'll see how that one progresses in the next couple of weeks.
"He's worked very hard in pre-season so far and for him to come through 45 minutes against North Ferriby and about 60 minutes against York is a huge plus for him and for us as well. I'm really pleased that he's been able to get that under his belt.
"I'd hope he'd be ready for the start of the season. I think it's about trying to get the challenge right for him. It wouldn't be right for him to be playing 90 minutes in every single game, we've got to try and measure what's needed at any given time.
"For him to come back and play a part in two games so far in pre-season is a very good sign."
