Wolves v Hull preview

28 August 2009 11:41
Wolves will be looking to build on their performance against Manchester City when they entertain Hull City on Saturday. Mick McCarthy's men went down 1-0 at Eastlands last weekend but can take comfort in the fact that they gave City some nervy moments, especially in the final 10 minutes. The loss means that Wolves have one win from their opening three Premier League matches and although the tag 'relegation six-pointer' is premature in August, McCarthy will be desperate to record a home win against a possible relegation rival. Meanwhile Hull, many people's favourites for the drop this term, secured their first league win of the campaign at home to Bolton last weekend. The victory was made all the more impressive when you consider that it came just three days after Phil Brown's men were thumped 5-1 at home to Tottenham. Brown will be determined to continue the winning habit at Molineux after his side added to the Bolton success with a 3-1 win at home to League One Southend in the Carling Cup on Tuesday. Wolves newsWolves could hand record signing Kevin Doyle his first Premier League start after hernia problems plagued his pre-season. The Republic of Ireland international came off the bench in the 1-0 league win over Wigan before starting the Carling Cup clash with League One Swindon in midweek. The Premier League new boys are also set to be boosted by the return of full-back Stephen Ward (knee) and the versatile Greg Halford (calf) after both picked up knocks against City. Last season's top scorer Sylvan Ebanks-Blake is back in training following the hamstring injury he picked up against West Ham on the opening day. However the striker is not expected to be risked against the Tigers, with a more realistic return date thought to be after the international break. Tigers newsBrown is set to hand a first Premier League start to on-loan USA striker Jozy Altidore after the 19-year-old impressed off the bench on his debut against Bolton and scored against the Shrimpers in midweek. Meanwhile Boaz Myhill, Mauro Zayatte, Michael Turner, Anthony Gardner, Andy Dawson and Seyi Olofinjana are all pushing for recalls after missing out against Southend. Sunderland defender Paul McShane looks almost certain to complete his switch to the KC Stadium but it looks unlikely that the move will go through in time for the former Manchester United youngster to play any part on Saturday. Ian Ashbee (knee) and Jimmy Bullard (knee) remain sidelined. Possible starting XIs Wolves: Hennessey, Stearman, Craddock, Mancienne, Stephen Ward, Halford, Edwards, Henry, Milijas, Doyle, Keogh. Hull: Myhill, Zayatte, Turner, Gardner, Dawson, Ghilas, Olofinjana, Geovanni, Kilbane, Hunt, Altidore.
