To Hull and back: Yes, we really have been, says Mrs Windass

This season has been a reality check for Dean. It's been a reality check for me and the boys too.[LNB]There are times in the last six months when he has been really hard work but now he is playing again with Oldham he is chatty, bubbly and even quite active round the house (if you know what I mean). When he was out of the team at Hull he was subdued, snappy with everyone and struggling to cope.[LNB] Hard work: Being at home with her husband hasn't been much fun for Helen Windass in the last six months.[LNB]The biggest blow was not starting the first league game. That's when it hit him that he might have a long few months ahead. And the longer than went on, the harder he found it.[LNB]He just wanted a run of games to prove to himself and the manager that he could still hack it at the top level. He has always been a very good trainer, he just wanted to show he could do it in the team.[LNB]Numerous times over the years I've heard him in the car on the way home from matches say 'I was crap today' or 'I thought I did okay but should have scored'. I know if he'd felt he was not up to the Premier League now, he would have gone to see Phil Brown and chucked the boots in the bin.[LNB]He has told me he felt he was letting me, Josh and Jordan down, but I had to sit him down and bang his head. I told him they don't see him as Dean Windass, Premier League footballer. To them he is their dad who just happens to play football. They are proud whatever he does and whether he plays or not.[LNB] Chelsea v HULL CITY: Brown's attacking options reduced for Bridge clash[LNB]Turner for the better! Hull defender agrees new two-year KC Stadium extension[LNB]To Hull and back: I like TV work but Gordon Ramsay's the real pro[LNB]To Hull and back: Forget the beer, I'm off to Oldham[LNB][LNB]I took a year's career break from the police force so we could travel as a family up and down the country - and so I could be his trolley dolly round the house (as if). A few times he didn't want us to go because he wasn't involved, but the lads wanted to travel to grounds we knew we would only get this year to see.[LNB]He was on a real downer after the Manchester City game and we all knew he had to get out on loan, either that or he was going to kill one of us, or more likely I might have killed him.[LNB]He is so proud and has always felt he had to prove himself and, as any manager who has known him will tell you, if he is not playing, he is a pain in the backside. He can't keep his mouth shut some times too and on hundreds of occasion, hundreds, I've said: 'I wish you hadn't said that'. But he does, thinks about it after letting his big gob go. That's Deano, the big daft sod.[LNB]Playing for Oldham has reminded him of what he loves most; playing football. This season has will also help him come to terms with the fact that he won't be a footballer for much longer (God forbid).[LNB]The trouble with football is you work your way up to the top but if you want to carry on playing, you have to be prepared to work your way down too. Luckily Dean is ready for that and he still loves it.[LNB]I've never been a pampered glamorous WAG but some of partners I've seen in the Premier League this season would find League One a real eye-opener. They don't have the time or money to pamper people. I'm just glad I've not put any weight on otherwise I don't know how I'd get through the turnstiles.[LNB]It's his 50th, sorry 40th on April Fool's Day and I haven't got a clue what to buy him. I did get him a helicopter ride for his 30th but he bottled it because he's scared of heights. I'm thinking of a balloon ride this time, but he knows I'd put a great big pin in it first.[LNB] [LNB]
