Hull City captain Ian Ashbee looks set for a role in the Tigers' pre-season friendlies next week after returning to full training.[LNB] The 33-year-old has endured a 14-month battle for fitness after twice undergoing surgery on his left knee in 2009.[LNB]The lay-off had cast some doubt over his playing future but Ashbee has since signalled his intent to lead the Tigers when the season starts next month.[LNB]A first week back in training has seen no ill-effects and with friendlies against Winterton Rangers, North Ferriby United and York to come in the next seven days, the midfielder should step up his pursuit of match fitness.[LNB]"He has looked very, very good. He has come back and looks full of enthusiasm. He has done all the training so far and that is very encouraging," boss Nigel Pearson told the Hull Daily Mail.
