Tigers hold defender talks
Hull City manager Phil Brown has opened talks with a Premier League defender ahead of the likely departure of Michael Turner.
The Tigers boss is bracing himself for the centre-back's departure before Tuesday's transfer deadline with Sunderland understood to be closing in on a deal.
As a result, Brown is hatching contingency plans and has met an unnamed Premier League defender.
He is also expected to talk to Manchester City striker Benjani on Monday with the Zimbabwean expected in Hull for a medical.
But the future of Turner continues to hang in the balance and while Brown is refusing to give up hope of keeping him, he accepts that the right money would force him to part with City's star defender.
"There have been two or three clubs who have made quite substantial bids and they are getting towards our valuation," Brown told the Hull Daily Mail.
"I am hoping we can hang on to him but, if we don't, we will have to try and get better in the camp.
"The problem is we are a bit close to the deadline.
"I am talking to a Premier League striker and, hopefully, if he passes the medical we will get him in.
"I am also talking to a Premier League centre half - just in case."
Tigers goalkeeper Boaz Myhill says the club will sorely miss Turner if the defender departs.
He said: "Of course, no-one wants to lose a player of Michael's calibre but it is not our call.
"It is the people in charge of the club who have to make the decision. All we do is get on with it.
"I don't know anything about that. What I will say is if he does go, he will do so with everyone's best wishes."
