Stoke join Hull in chase for Michael Owen

Former England striker Owen, 29, has confirmed that he will seek a new club when his £110,000-a-week contract at relegated Newcastle expires on June 30. Hull manager Phil Brown has already admitted that he is keen to open talks with Owen's representatives over a move to the KC Stadium. Everton are also understood to be monitoring the situation, but the FA Cup finalists are understood to be reluctant to break the wage structure to accommodate Owen. The former Liverpool and Real Madrid star appears to have few top-bracket options following an injury-ravaged four years on Tyneside, but Pulis insists that the player would still be a major catch for Stoke should they be able to lure him to the Britannia Stadium. Pulis said: "You never say never in football, so of course I'd be interested in throwing my hat into the ring if it was ever viable. "I'm not sure whether Michael would want to come here right now, but that situation could always change for him. "He would be a great signing for this football club and he can rest assured our fans would treat him as one of their own. "I imagine there will be bigger clubs taking an interest in his availability for the moment, and I can't say I've received a copy of his dossier, but that doesn't mean he will end up signing for them necessarily. "So it could be a deal that comes on to our radar in time and one we'd be silly to turn our back on if we could get something sorted with his people." Pulis insists that he would be unconcerned about Owen's injury record should he have the opportunity to sign him for Stoke. He said: "He has had his fitness problems and they've been well publicised, but if you've got a fit Michael Owen then you've still got one hell of a player on your hands. "You'd have to hope that he came to you hungry to succeed and desperate to prove wrong all those critics lining up to have a go at him."
