Points please Pearson

Hull manager Nigel Pearson was pleased with the result rather than the performance following his side's 1-0 win over Derby. Anthony Gerrard's strike in the 70th minute was enough to separate the teams as the Tigers continue their push for a play-off place in the npower Championship. Pearson said: "We have made hard work of it because we didn't play particularly well but results are the key thing at the moment in our position. We are trying to keep in touch with the teams in the play-off positions but clearly we have played better than that. "Maybe it was fortunate we were up against a team struggling for a bit of form at the moment but it wasn't a pretty game and it wasn't a good performance by us in many ways. "However our spirit and our desire to put things right changed things in the second half. We played a little bit better and created some opportunities but it wasn't one of our better performances. "It's important when you are not playing well that you still remain solid and we do give a lot of height away, we are not a big side, but we still have the desire to defend as a group."
