Players must produce - Barmby

Hull veteran Nick Barmby has attempted to deflect the pressure from manager Phil Brown by calling on his team-mates to deliver. The Tigers` dismal start to the season continued as Everton eased to a convincing 4-0 win in a one-sided Carling Cup third-round tie at the KC Stadium. Goals from Ayegbeni Yakubu, Jo and Dan Gosling effectively settled the match inside the opening 24 minutes before Leon Osman added a fourth in the second half. With Hull 19th in the Barclays Premier League after six games and with the worst defensive record in the top flight, disquiet among supporters is growing and Brown's position has come under scrutiny. Brown must now pick his side up for a tough trip to Liverpool on Saturday but Barmby admits the players must also accept responsibility. Barmby, a former Liverpool and Everton midfielder, said: "We need to start toughening up and being a bit cuter and cleverer. We need to get back to the basics of this club. The traditions of the club were of a good, hard-work ethic during games. It is down to us as players, it is roll your sleeves up time. That has got nothing to do with the manager, we need to start doing it as players."
