Phil Brown: FA should not ban Joe Kinnear and me

So I'm hoping the powers-that-be will show common sense when they deliberate on our FA Cup tie and that there are no books being thrown at anyone.[LNB]There has already been plenty of talk about touchline bans, but it was only a case of the proverbial handbags at 10 paces after a dispute was all blown out of proportion not by the referee, Phil Dowd, but probably by ourselves.[LNB]We're both passionate about our teams, we're both passionate about the game, and we both badly wanted to get through. [LNB]But my point was that you can't advocate defenders going through the back of attackers. That happened not once but twice when Fabricio Coloccini took out Daniel Cousin before our row. [LNB]Then Newcastle's Chris Hughton, who is a coach I rate highly, became embroiled in a row with our dug-out about what? I couldn't understand it. Our point was that the tackle from behind was bang out of order so why are they being supportive?[LNB]That was my whole argument. Consequently, Joe became involved and we went close to each other and were rightly dealt with by the referee and sent to the stands.[LNB]I would not advocate that sort of activity among our players so there should be no exception among the managers and coaches. [LNB]And what the FA will do is their business, but I'd like to think that a line was drawn underneath the episode by the referee, who dealt with the matter in one fell swoop.[LNB]Just before our row I applauded Phil Dowd, but it wasn't sarcastic applause. It was recognition that Dowd had played the advantage on Coloccini's first tackle because we were on the attack and he had a word with him, although that was a booking. I was simply applauding good refereeing.[LNB]I used to play the game and thought that the days of being able to make a tackle before you got booked had gone until the other night. Long may Dowd's approach continue, as long as it doesn't maim anyone.[LNB]I have been trying to fine-tune the Hull squad during the transfer window and I'm hoping that Steve Finnan will be joining us from Espanyol when he's undergone his medicals.[LNB]We had to make wholesale changes to the squad last summer when we flooded the place with experienced top-flight players and the swift way the jigsaw has come together has taken a lot of people by surprise.[LNB]Hull City have got up to speed with the Premier League and vice-versa and we need to improve again. We will invest frugally to fit players into our wage structure. We won't break the bank for anybody and we won't jeopardise the business for anybody. [LNB]
