Pearson: We can challenge

Hull manager Nigel Pearson believes there is no reason why his side can not challenge for promotion this season. Owner Russell Bartlett has recently denied rumours of the club going into administration amid reports of the Tigers being denied their parachute payments from the Premier League. However, Pearson, who left Leicester despite taking them to the play-offs last season, is not concerned with Hull's off-the-field problems, and despite having a small squad, the 46-year-old insists he has the resources to lead a promotion charge. "We want to set targets which are achievable certainly, and I don't see any reason why we can't strive to be involved in that promotion race," he told Sky Sports News. "If you look at the numbers, we don't have a big squad and I think there are a number of sides in this division this year who would probably say the same thing. "I'm not really spending too much time thinking about the stuff that's going on off the pitch. We are fully concentrated on making sure we are fully prepared for the season in terms of the football and we think we can be very competitive in this division."
