Long way to go

Paul Walsh said that Middlesbrough fully deserved their 3-1 win against Hull at the Riverside. Middlesbrough injected life into their survival bid, and increased Hull City's worries. Boro enjoyed a dream start in front of a packed Riverside when Tuncay Sanli turned home the loose ball after just three minutes when Tigers keeper Matt Duke could only parry Afonso Alves' low shot. But the visitors were quickly back on level terms when on-loan striker Manucho beat a team-mate to the punch by heading home former Boro midfielder Nick Barmby's cross. The hosts were back in front on 29 minutes when Tony McMahon's corner from the right was met by a neat flick at the near post from Matthew Bates and Marlon King made the points safe late on when he slotted their third goal. "They deserved it," said Paul Walsh on Soccer Saturday. "They were the better team throughout. They created more and had more variety up front. In all honesty I did think it was two ordinary teams having a scrap and Boro always had their noses in front." This was a must win game for Middlesbrough and Paul is still concerned that they may not make the cut. "It will be difficult. They have harder games than that to come and will face a lot more quality. "It is a bit like a revolving door down at the bottom - can they handle it? We will have to wait and see."
