Hull v Southend preview

25 August 2009 11:19
Hull City meet Southend United in the second round of the Carling Cup on Tuesday night. The Tigers are eyeing back-to-back successes after winning at the weekend while Southend will be looking to further advance in this term's competition after beating Cheltenham in the last round. Hull are likely to make a number of changes for the clash at the KC Stadium. Nathan Doyle could get a chance to stake a claim for the problematic right-back slot while youngster Tom Cairney is in line for his senior debut. Several other fringe players could get an opportunity as manager Phil Brown opts to rest some first-team regulars. The Tigers have no fresh injuries worries following the weekend win over Bolton but Dean Marney is still out with a knee problem. Richard Garcia, Jimmy Bullard and Ian Ashbee are out long-term. Southend team newsSouthend manager Steve Tilson may be tempted to freshen up his side. The Shrimpers boss has seen his men draw all four of their opening League One games and could shuffle his pack. Veteran striker Dougie Freedman could be one of those to be left out by Tilson, with Alex Revell and James Walker both pushing hard to partner top scorer Lee Barnard in attack, while loan defender Jean-Yves M'Voto could also come in. M'Voto and fellow loanees Matt Heath and John White are all cleared to figure after their parent clubs allowed them to play in the win over Cheltenham in the previous round. Winger Damien Scannell has begun training following an ankle injury but is unlikely to be involved, while Francis Laurent is sidelined through a similar injury.
