The bid team are certainly determined to make sure that the World Cup reaches all corners of the country. Having spoken to various potential host cities in a first round of consultations, chief executive Andy Anson will begin a second round of talks next month – when Fifa issue specific guidelines on what host cities will require – before initiating a competitive process between the cities to determine which 12 stadiums will be used. "We want to get as broad a spread as possible, from Newcastle to Portsmouth" Anson explained. "We have had an amazing response from cities who want to be involved. Even if they are not hosting games, there will be a need for base camps for the various countries. We want to engage with the whole of England." Wembley is the only confirmed host stadium and while the likes of Manchester, Birmingham and Liverpool will almost certainly host games, the door is open for the likes of Nottingham, Sheffield, Bristol, Sunderland and, the latest to come into the frame, Hull, to make their case. Cities like Burnley, Ipswich and Norwich could prove ideal base camps. The final decision on host cities will be made in the autumn.
