Hull confirm Iain Dowie as manager

Iain Dowie has been confirmed as the new manager of struggling Hull City.

The 45-year-old former Charlton, Crystal Palace and QPR manager replaces Phil Brown who was sacked on Monday.

He will be assisted by former Blackburn goalkeeper Tim Flowers and Steve Wigley.

Dowie's first game in charge of his new side will be against crisis club Portsmouth on Saturday afternoon.  He then has eight more games from which to save a Hull side currently languishing second bottom in the table, three points from safety.

Hull Chairman Adam Pearson has desribed Dowie's contract as "short-term" but said he expects to arrange a longer deal at the end of the season.
