Hull City v Liverpool live!

25 April 2009 14:45
Hull City 1 Liverpool 3. All over and the Reds take the spoils. They remain on course for the Premier League title, while Hull slip closer to the drop. Thanks for joining me and I hope you enjoyed the game.[LNB]90+2 Time is slipping away and both sides appear to have settled for this scoreline.[LNB] Four minutes of stoppage time to be played.[LNB]89 Kuty makes way for Dossena.[LNB]89 GOAL LIVERPOOL - KUYT. All over as Arbeloa's low drive is parried by Myhill straight to Kuyt, who makes no mistake from five yards. Points in the bag.[LNB]87 Benayoun makes way for Agger, while Torres lashes past the post as time begins to ebb away.[LNB]86 Torres thinks he has snuck in between two defenders, but is pulled back by the linesman's flag.[LNB]85 Late corner to Hull sees Reina strugling again. His punch hits Alonso, before Carragher hammers into the crowd and gives his mates a mouthful.[LNB]84 Mascherano makes way for El Zhar.[LNB]83 Chaos inside the Liverpool box from Geovanni free-kick has the home fans excited for a moment. It ultimately comes to nothing though and the Reds hang on.[LNB]82 Alonso searches out Benayoun down the right, but over-hits his pass and finds Myhill.[LNB]81 Skrtel almost gets a head to the firwst delivery abd Torres wings over another dangerous cross as the Tigers struggle to see the danger out.[LNB]80 Corner to Liverpool as we enter the last 10 minutes.[LNB]79 Manucho comes on in place of Boateng.[LNB]79 Torres sees a close-range header cannon back off the crossbar after being set up by Kuyt.[LNB]77 Manucho is about to become Phil Brown's final throw of the dice. On the pitch, Mascherano is the latest in a long line of Liverpool players to fire into the stands.[LNB]76 Lucas could have wrapped things up there but yet again fails to find the targe. He has been disappointing again today. With time and space 10-yards out he somehow fires high and wide.[LNB]74 Great work from Mendy as he almost catches Alonso in possession. The Tigers are not giving to give this up without a fight.[LNB]73 GOAL HULL - GEOVANNI. Lifeline for Hull as Cousin bustles down the left and cuts a ball back from Geovanni to hammer home from six yards. Is there life in this game yet?[LNB]72 The Tigers just can't keep the ball for long enough to cause problems. Liverpool are getting plenty of men behind the ball and are making life very difficult for their opponents.[LNB]71 Geovanni lifts the resulting effort into the wall and then slips as he attempts to latch onto the loss ball. Liverpool break with numbers, but are too keen and fall foul of the offside flag.[LNB]70 Geovanni tumbles on the edge of the box and Hull get the decision. What can they make of this?[LNB]69 Torres blazes another disappointing effort high, wide and handsome.[LNB]68 Wasteful from Benayoun as Liverpool look to carve their way through for a third time. The Tigers are rattled and the Reds are looking the more likely to find another.[LNB]67 Hull have Liverpool rattled for a moment as Reina comes and flaps at a high cross. Fortunately for him, Insua is on hand to help him out.[LNB]66 Mascherano drills a low effort from the edge of the box goalwards, but sees it cannon behind for a corner. Alonso picks out Insua with a training ground routine, but he fires over with a mis-timed volley.[LNB]64 Arbeloa is the latest to get his name taken following a rough challenge.[LNB]64 Geovanni delivers a dangerous free-kick into the heart of the box but once again Liverpool get a contentious decision.[LNB]62 GOAL LIVERPOOL - KUYT. The Dutchman nods home unmarked from six yards out following a melee in the Hull box. Shouts for handball against Lucas fall on deaf ears and the Reds look home and hosed.[LNB]61 Double switch from the Tigers as Cousin and Mendy come on in place of Barmy and Fagan.[LNB]61 Vital interception from Zayatte prevents Torres from tapping home.[LNB]60 Fagan goes into the book for clattering Skrtel.[LNB]60 More abuse for the officials from the stands, but they can have few complaints about the dismissal. Is that the end of Hull's chances this afternoon?[LNB]59 Moment of madness from Folan sees him sent for an early shower. He clattered Skrtel off the ball and Atkinson has no qualms in showing him a red card.[LNB]58 Kuyt finds a bit of room on the edge of the box, but sees it quickly whittled away.[LNB]56 More controlled possession from the Reds as they look to control the tempo of proceedings and see this game out. Hull need a Plan B - and quickly![LNB]55 Torres hooks over the bar as Benayoun causes problems off the right, Hull fail to deal with a bouncing box on the edge of their own box and are relieved to see the Liverpool striker off target.[LNB]54 Fagan looks to keep an aimless long ball alive, but he is unable to control a raking pass. In the meantime both managers are irrate on the touchline and are barking orders at their players.[LNB]53 Fagan and Ricketts get this is a tangle by the corner and yet again the Tigers are unable to take advanatge of a promising position. Nerves appear to be playing a part as these players know they could be playing for their future.[LNB]52 Ironic cheers ring around the KC as Martin Atkinson sends a decision their way.[LNB]50 Skrtel puts Reina under pressure with a dody back-pass and the Spanish slices his clearance out of play. Hull are then denied the opportunity to build a platform on which to build as Fagan is flagged offside.[LNB]49 The Reds are playing at testimonial pace and do not appear to have any intention of chasing a second. Is that wise?[LNB]48 Hull are the ones that need to take the game by the scruff of the neck now. Liverpool look happy to sit on what they have got and hit on the counter.[LNB]47 Torres, who has been quiet throughout, looks to inject some pace into the game as he picks up possession 20 yards from goal. Two quick touches allow him to set himefl, but he drills horribly over the bar. Not his day so far.[LNB]46 Two rather aimless hoofs from both sides to open the half, neither of which come to much.[LNB] Hull get us up and running again.[LNB] For the record, Barmby was shown a yellow card as the sides left the pitch at half-time for protesting against the decision which allowed Alonso to open the scoring.[LNB] Can the Tigers still snatch something from this game or will the Reds prove too strong. It has not been a classic so far, but with so much riding on it is that so much of a surprise?[LNB] Remember you can bet inplay at skybet.com throughout the game. Hull are 20/1 to take three points, with Liverpool at 1/8. You can get 13/2 on the Tigers finding a leveller and the game ending 1-1.[LNB] Hull City 0 Liverpool 1. Alonso's effort moments before the break seperates the sides at the interval. Hull feel hard done to, but they can take heart from how they went about proceedings during the first half.[LNB]45+1 The Tigers are still fuming and need to clear their heads before facing the challenge of the seoncd half. They almost snatch an equaliser in the dying seconds of the opening 45, but once again they are denied a clear opportunity by Mr Atkinson. Suffice to say the ref is not very popular at the moment.[LNB] One minute of stoppage time to be played.[LNB]45 GOAL LIVERPOOL - ALONSO - The Spaniard sees his first effort cannon off the wall, before he sends an unstoppable follow-up crashing past Myhill. Great strike, but should Liverpool have even been awarded a free-kick on the edge of the box? The Tigers don't think so![LNB]44 Marney goes into the book for an earlier misdemeanour.[LNB]44 Clever dummy from Barmby cuts out Carragher, but Skrtel is alive to the danger and nips in ahead of Folan.[LNB]43 The Reds' sloppiness free Ricketts and his swinging cross to the back post is only narowly too high for Folan.[LNB]42 Liverpool play with fire on the edge of their own box and are lucky to emerge unscathed following a number of ill-advised passes.[LNB]41 Mascherano's radar is slighty out as he sprays a pass towards Benayoun, but finds touch. For all the endeavour on display from both sides we are lacking a bit of quality which could illuminate the game.[LNB]40 A lack of communication between Zayatte and Myhill sees the former concede a needless corner. Hull initially struggle to clear their lines and the Reds remain camped in and around the Tigers' box.[LNB]39 Barmby's eyes light up for a moment as a high cross appears to be coming his way. However, Arbeloa emerges from nowhere to prevent him notching against his former club.[LNB]38 Sloppy from Kuty as he tries to free Benayoun and only succeeds in slicing straight to Myhill. Here's hoping the standard is raised after the break.[LNB]37 Torres and Lucas combine well to send the latter through on goal. His route to the target is swiftly cut out though by Zayatte who shows remarkable composure to see out the danger.[LNB]36 Hull have conceded a few unneccessary free-kicks in the last few minutes and need to be careful. On this occasion Alonso comes very close to finding Kuty with a delicate delivery.[LNB]35 Yet again poor delivery sees a good opportunity go to waste as Insua's set-piece fails to beat the first man.[LNB]34 Torres is slightly fortunate to win a free-kick after being knocked off the ball by Zayatte. Promising position for Liverpool.[LNB]33 Alonso is charged with corner duties for Liverpool and, after a slight scuffle in the box, his delivery is eventually smashed high into the stands by Insua. Sums up a first half of few clear-cut opportunities.[LNB]32 Boateng robs Arbeloa of the ball on the edge of the box, swings a cross into Skrtle's midrift and claims handball. Once again though Mr Atkinson waves away the protests.[LNB]31 We desperately need a goal to inject some life into the game. It is all a bit subdued at the moment.[LNB]30 Lull in proceedings as Liverpool indulge in a spot of keep-ball before gifting the ball back to Hull. Who then do the same![LNB]28 More joy for Insua as he gallops down the flank, only to once again fail to pick out a team-mate. At the other end, Folan does well to hold up a long ball, but is soom muscled out of possession by Carragher.[LNB]27 Insua almost picks out Torres with a dangerous cross from the left, but Turner is on hand to hammer clear.[LNB]26 Neither side can keep possession for long at the moment and events have become a bit scrappy. That might suit the hosts as they are fired up for the battle ahead.[LNB]25 Terrible effort from Lucas as he drags well past the post from the edge of the box. He had time and space and really should have done a lot better.[LNB]24 Ricketts continues to cause problems with his long throws and Folan continues to be a menace in the air. They are yet to get the combination right, but it will work eventually if Liverpool continue to be so slack.[LNB]23 The Tigers have started to take control of the middle of the park and have forced Benayoun into an error on this occasion. Geovanni once again delivers from the corner, but Skrtel rises highest to clear the danger.[LNB]22 Skrtel concedes a needless corner when under no pressure. What can the Tigers do with this? Aanswer - not a lot. There is a vain shout for handball, but the referee is unmoved.[LNB]21 Liverpool need to get someone closer to Torres because the Spaniard is fighting a lost cause on his own at the moment.[LNB]20 More good work from Geovanni has Liverpool playing sideways cross their back four. The Reds have had the better of the chances so far, but the Tigers have not been seriosuly rattled.[LNB]19 A great ball from Boateng has Ricketts flying down the right. His scuffed cross his hacked clear and Barmby then gifts possession back to the visitors with a sloppy pass.[LNB]18 Arebloa drills over a low cross which Kuyt is unfortunate not to get on the of. Hull, meanwhile, break on the counter and have Liverpool worried for a minute.[LNB]17 Great effort from Geovanni flashes inches past the post. Liverpool only half-clear another Ricketts long throw and the Brazilian has Reina grasping at thin air.[LNB]16 Good hassling by Folan forces Liverpool all the way back. Plenty of effort on show from the Hull frontmen so far. No reward as yet though.[LNB]15 Marney carries the ball to the edge of the box and on the advice of the crowd lets fly. His effort is woeful though and never troubles the target.[LNB]14 A giant clearance from Myhill allows Fagan to hook a cross to te front post, but Reina falls on the ball at the feet of Folan[LNB]13 A long throw from Ricketts is nodded on by Folan, but only into the grateful arms of Reina.[LNB]12 Torres almost spins behind Zayatte with a clever touch, only to see the Hull man get lucky as the ball strikes him in the face.[LNB]11 Hull spurn a set-piece in a decent area as they attempt to be too clever. Throwing a hopeful ball into the box would be a better idea next time.[LNB]10 Benayoun again causes Ricketts problems as he drifts in from the right flank and sends a curling effort narrowly over. The Reds appear to have found their feet and have found a foot hold in the game.[LNB]9 Fagan finds space in behind Arbeloa and sets off towards goal. Unfortunatel the searching pass towards him is not the best and he is unable to bring the ball under his spell.[LNB]8 Liverpool have some down down the left following another disappointing corner but are unable to trouble the Tigers' back line.[LNB]7 So close to the opener as Benayoun dances into the box. His effort is blocked and Torres' rebound is tipped over by Myhill. The resulting corner comes to nothing.[LNB]6 Folan spins in behind, but then looks to come back on himself and gets crowded out. The opportunity to get in a strike on goal was there, but he obviosuly didn't fancy his left foot.[LNB]4 Ricketts battles well down the right but fails to get over a cross. Liverpool are sat very deep when on the backfoot and inviting pressure onto themselves. Perhaps lessons have been learnt from their last two games that the gung-ho approach is not the best![LNB]3 Geovanni wastes a promising free-kick as he picks out the first man in a red shirt. Disappointing from the Brazilian.[LNB]2 Barmby almost sneaks in, but Carragher slams the door in his face. Bright start by the hosts.[LNB]1 Folan snaps into an early tackle. No messing around from the Tigers this afternoon. Meanwhile, Kuyt is sent scampering down the right but fails to catch up with the ball.[LNB] Liverpool get us underway.[LNB] It's a glorious afternoon in East Yorkshire and the air of expectation sweeping around the ground is almost tangible. Both sets of supporters know how important today's result could be in the long run.[LNB] We are about ready for the off here in front of a packed house at the KC Stadium.
