Match Preview

Hull City's bid for Premier League survival faces another major test when the Tigers play host to top-four hopefuls Aston Villa on Wednesday evening.

The Tigers are currently deep in trouble in the bottom three and have only four games left to try and avoid a return to the Championship after two seasons in the top-flight - the first in the club's history.

Recent form is against the Tigers, with the replacement of Phil Brown by Iain Dowie at the KC Stadium helm failing to have the desired effect.

Last time out, City fought for a goalless draw at an out-of-form Birmingham City, having suffered a potentially decisive 4-1 thrashing at home to fellow strugglers Burnley on their last home outing.

In fact, City have won just once in their last nine games, that a 2-0 victory at home to a Fulham side who clearly had Europe on their minds.

Villa travel to Humberside having taken seven points from their last three league games, having suffered a 7-1 thrashing at Chelsea before mounting a renewed challenge for fourth place.

Last time out, a late Nathan Delfouneso strike secured a 2-1 win at already relegated Portsmouth, while Villa also struck late in their last home game, with an own goal by Phil Jagielka rescuing a 2-2 draw against Everton.

Hull's rescue bid is being hampered by several injuries, with winger Stephen Hunt's season having been ended early by a foot injury, while loan striker Amr Zaki has left the club due to knee problems.

Richard Garcia, Kamil Zayatte, Ian Ashbee (all knee) are unlikely to feature against Villa, while an ankle problem is set to keep defender Anthony Gardner on the sidelines.

Meanwhile, Villa boss Martin O'Neill has virtually no injury problems to contend with, with long-term ankle injury victim Nigel Reo-Coker back in contention after a couple of reserve team outings.

That leaves defender Curtis Davies doubtful due to an ankle problem which has kept him out of action since January, while midfielder Fabian Delph misses out due to a knee injury sustained in training.

When the two sides met earlier this season in early December, Villa powered to a 3-0 win at Villa Park, with Richard Dunne, James Milner and John Carew getting on the scoresheet.
