Hull City chairman Duffen accused of spending club's money for own use

Court: Hull have issued legal proceedings against Paul Duffen[LNB]Hull City have accused former chairman Paul Duffen of spending company money for his own personal use, a charge he denies.[LNB]The club confirmed on Thursday they have issued legal proceedings against Duffen in the High Court and on Friday issued a statement saying they have been successful in freezing his assets.[LNB]But Duffen's barrister, Lexa Hilliard QC, said that although Mr Duffen had consented to the orders 'this was not to be taken as an admission by my client of any of the allegations against him'.[LNB]Hull also allege that Duffen's company received payments from agents in return for using those agents to deal with transfers.[LNB]The club said in a statement: 'The company believes that Mr Duffen has acted in breach of his employment contracts and fiduciary duties as a director, through the use of company monies for his own personal expenditure and other wrongdoings.[LNB]'The company also believes that he has acted in breach of his employment contracts and fiduciary duties as a director, through the payment of certain monies by third party football agents to Mr Duffen's services company, in return for which Mr Duffen procured that Hull City contract with the agents for business.[LNB] 'Consequently, on 15 January last, the company successfully sought and obtained a High Court order freezing Mr Duffen's assets.[LNB]'The company also wishes to clarify that, contrary to a tabloidnewspaper article today, Mr Duffen has not issued any legal proceedingsagainst the company and Hull City does not believe he has any basiswhatsoever for doing so.'[LNB]An order freezing Mr Duffen's assets made last Friday was lifted andsubstituted with an order to value and place a charge on a property.[LNB] Hull high jump: Former chairman Duffen facing court action over debt-hit CityHull City and West Ham join the chase for Rangers striker Kris BoydManchester United's Rio Ferdinand set for injury comeback against Hull CityAmr Zaki determined to silence critics as he prepares for Hull relegation fightHULL CITY FC
