Going Down?: No Wins At The Bottom

05 April 2010 22:14
West Ham and Wigan failed to fully capitalise yesterday after Hull City continued their losing ways on the road in Premier League Week 33. City were never in the match away at Stoke. The writing was on the wall as early as the 6th minute after Ricardo Fuller gave the home side the lead, and Liam Lawrence made certain with a second goal in the dying minutes. Wolves and Bolton both remain on 32 points. Arsenal claimed a last gasp 1-0 win against Wolves, while Bolton lost 0-1 at home to Aston Villa. Burnley then had chance to make up some ground on Saturday evening but surrendered at home to Manchester City. 0-3 down after 7 minutes and 0-5 down at half time, it finished 1-6. Those defeats on Saturday gave Wigan an opportunity at Fulham on Sunday, and at half time were taking it thanks to Jason Scotland's first goal. But the home side came back to win it 2-1 in the second half so they remain on 31 points. In the final game of the weekend, West Ham were the only team to improve on their points tally. They twice came from behind to draw 2-2 at Everton. They're now within 3 points' reach of Wigan and a point ahead of Hull City. The Tigers have a game in hand, although would need to win that as the Hammers' goal difference is much superior.
