Folan looking for career boost

Hull striker Caleb Folan hopes his involvement in the Republic of Ireland's World Cup qualifying campaign can take his club career up a level. Folan has struggled to earn a regular place in the Hull side this term due to form and injuries but shone in Ireland's impressive draw in Italy last week. The 28-year-old was limited to a five-minute substitute's role on his return to Hull in Saturday's goalless draw with Portsmouth but he feels his international exploits will stand him in good stead. Folan, who set up an equaliser for Robbie Keane in Bari, said: "It's always great to be called up. "It shows the manager Giovanni Trapattoni believes in me and it's always a confidence boost to go over there. "To actually play a part is an amazing thing and to play against the world champions was a highlight for me so far. Hopefully I can kick on from that. It was a great experience for myself and I took a lot from it."
