FA Cup semifinal draw: Manchester United to face Everton

08 March 2009 19:05
Draw in full - ties to be played 18 and 19 of April: Arsenal or Hull City v Chelsea Manchester United v Everton Should Arsenal, who yesterday overcame Burnley to set up a rearranged quarter final with Hull, get past Phil Brown's side, they will face Chelsea in the other tie. Sir Alex Ferguson will be the happiest of the five remaining managers, though, with history very much on his side. Everton, who beat Ferguson's team to lift the trophy in 1995, have only beaten United once since then. That will make United favourites to ease past David Moyes's side – who yesterday came from behind to beat Middlesbrough – and remain on course to win five trophies in a single season. No date has yet been set for Arsenal to face Hull at the Emirates, but both Arsene Wenger and Brown will be hoping Guus Hiddink's poor record at the national stadium continues. His Holland side lost 4-0 to England there in Euro 96, while in 2007 he saw his Russia team beaten 3-0 by Steve McClaren's England. The prospect of a meeting of the two London clubs is a mouthwatering one as the top Premier League sides have rediscovered their strength in the FA Cup. Last season's semi-final line up had an unfamiliar feel to it, with three Championship sides contesting them, however, if Arsenal beat Hull then the final four places will be occupied by teams currently residing in European places in the top division. Both matches will be held at Wembley Stadium.
