Hull have named Iain Dowie as their new manager as they battle to stay in the Barclays Premier League. [LNB]Hull chairman Adam Pearson went for the former QPR and Crystal Palace boss after Mark Hughes turned him down and Avram Grant underlined his wish to stay with Portsmouth. [LNB]Paul Jewell and Alan Curbishley also snubbed Pearson, who sacked Brown on Monday morning following Hull's weekend home defeat by Arsenal.[LNB] Back in business: Iain Dowie is unveiled at Hull[LNB] [LNB]Gone: Phil Brown was sacked[LNB]Dowie's last job was as Alan Shearer's assistant at Newcastle, but the pair were unable to save them from relegation to the Championship.[LNB]He will be assisted by Steve Wigley and Tim Flowers.[LNB]Dowie said: 'It's a city that has a ferocious fanbase, the infrastructure is here. It's an area that can more than justify having a Premier League team.[LNB]'I think there is some value in the team. I think it's a working-class area that deserves a team that reflects that - a team that plays with a bit of tenacious endeavour, that is aggressive on thefield and also pass the ball a bit.[LNB]'I'm only going to talk about the good things Phil Brown has done, it's very important he should be recognised for the job he has done here.[LNB]'He should be applauded for his job, this is just a different chapter. I've had it in my life, sometimes you get curve balls.'[LNB]Pearson added: 'He is up for the challenge and we are in a position we need tofight and battle for every point.[LNB]'I think they are classic Iain Dowie attributes and I am sure he will bring that to this club and we are all in this fight together and we are looking for that fresh impetus to get us over the line, 13, 14, 15 points - whatever that is but we are still going to need to win four games.'[LNB] Pearson also rejected advances from the likes of Terry Venables, Gareth Southgate andPeter Reid who were all among the leading candidates.[LNB] [LNB]Meanwhile, Pearson has managed to reduce City's bank debt from more than £15millionto £4.6m since returning to the club last year. [LNB]However, the Tigers will still face a funding shortfall of £21m should they lose their Premier League status, auditors have again warned.[LNB] Final blow: Nicklas Bendtner scores the winner against Hull in Phil Brown's last match[LNB]Details of the club's present financial position were revealed in the latest set of filed accounts to Companies House. [LNB]They made nearly £2m operating profit in the year of their first top-flight campaign but ended the financial period with bank debts of more than £15m. [LNB]That was a figure Pearson immediately stressed had to be reduced when he returned to the club and he has done just that, making a series of repayments, initially of £7m and most recently of £2m in both January and February, to reduce debt to £4.6m.  [LNB] Dowie leading the race to take charge at Hull following the sacking of BrownHull hope Hughes falls to temptation in quest to replace sacked boss BrownThe 2009/10 managerial merry-go-round: Brown becomes 33rd exitHULL CITY FC
