Burnley 2 Hull City 0: Barmby hits out at referee after controversial afternoon

Nick Barmby has hit out at referee Mike Jones after the official made a series of controversial decisions during Hull City's 2-0 loss at Burnley on Saturday.[LNB]Jones was in charge of a Barclays Premier League fixture for the first time since allowing Sunderland's beach ball-assisted goal against Liverpool.[LNB]The referee, under pressure because of that incident, gave an unconvincing display at Turf Moor which left former Liverpool and England midfielder Barmby fuming. [LNB] Eye of the storm: Hull players confront referee Jones[LNB]First, Jones awarded a dubious 20th-minute penalty to the home side after Tyrone Mears fell in the box when jostling with Stephen Hunt.[LNB]Jones then disallowed a Geovanni free-kick midway through the second half for an innocuous push in the wall by Seyi Olofinjana. Geovanni was then booked for his reaction to the decision.[LNB]And the visitors were seething again two minutes later as Jones showed the Brazilian a second yellow card for a sliding challenge on Steven Fletcher. [LNB]Soon afterwards, Burnley took advantage by going 2-0 up and killing off the game.[LNB] Marching orders: Geovanni is shown a red card [LNB]Hull midfielder Barmby said: 'They were massive decisions and we've got to be careful what we say. The manager has got to be careful about what he says to avoid a charge.[LNB]Under fire: Hull boss Phil Brown[LNB]'But the first one, he [Mears] has tried to hit it with his right and it's one of those where he's caught his left and he's off-balance.[LNB]'We were very frustrated and disappointed at a time when they weren't really creating anything. We were solid for 20 minutes then a big decision turned the  game in their favour.  [LNB]'With the Geo free-kick, we all want to be in the ground to see things like that. It was a fantastic free-kick, fantastic technique and everyone's cheering  - then suddenly the referee has blown and it's an incredible decision.[LNB]'When the results go against you, obviously the manager's job gets in question.  It is a results business and Phil Brown knows that more than anyone.'[LNB] Brown but not out: 'My players are still behind me,' declares Hull City bossBurnley 2 Hull 0: Alexander at the double to heap pressure on Phil BrownHull launching £31m probe into ALL their transfers in past two yearsThe less than magnificent seven: Phil Brown's fruitless hunt for a permanent Hull captainALL THE HULL CITY FC
