Bullard eyes October return

Jimmy Bullard is expecting to be back in action by October as he recovers from his cruciate knee ligament injury. The 30-year-old sustained the injury on his Hull City debut against West Ham in January just days after completing his £5million move from Fulham. The midfielder denied claims that the injury was a recurrence of the problem that kept him out for 14 months while at Craven Cottage in September 2006 and had to defend acquisitions that his career was over. The news should please Phil Brown although the Tigers boss had hoped he would have had his record signing back for the start of the upcoming season. "I don't think I'm going to be a million miles away at the start of October," he told The Sun. "As long as things keep going well it will be around that date. We'll have to wait and see. But I'm looking to come back and hit the ground running. "Hopefully I'll be back stronger than ever and then I've got my whole career ahead of me in a Hull shirt."
