Brown wants Geo deal

Hull City boss Phil Brown is hoping Brazilian playmaker Geovanni can be persuaded to sign a new contract. The Samba star joined the Tigers as a free agent in the summer of 2008, penning a two-year deal upon his arrival at the KC Stadium. He starred for Brown's side as they narrowly avoided the drop last term, while he has also made an impressive start to the current campaign. Hull are understandably keen to tie the 29-year-old down on a new long-term deal, and are optimistic that the former Barcelona ace will commit to the club. Brown said: "The lad's heart and soul are in the club at the moment and hopefully, fingers crossed, we are very close to him putting pen to paper." Geovanni's creative abilities will once again be vital to the Tigers' hopes of securing Premier League survival this term, but Brown admits that the rest of the team need to do their job in order to give the South American freedom to express himself. He added: "Instead of us maintaining possession and getting the ball out to Geovanni so he can create for us, he has had to do a defensive role for us, which disappoints me - but that is purely and simply down to giving the ball away."
