Brown happy with strikers
Hull City manager Phil Brown has praised his options up front as the Tigers prepare for their trip to Sunderland.
Brown has brought strikers Kamil Ghilas, Jozy Altidore and Dutchman Jan Vennegor of Hesselink to the KC Stadium in a bid to bolster his attacking options, and he is more than happy with his new signings.
However, the Tigers boss admitted that certain players will have to drop down the pecking order and fight for their place in the first team.
"In the main we've been trying to strengthen the strike-force and now all of a sudden we've hopefully got a strike-force to be reckoned with," he said.
"Obviously we can't cater for everybody and the one's that are either not in the first team or even on the coach will be I dare say banging on my door on Monday morning.
Strength"That's a case of managing them and their aspirations and if they feel their futures lie elsewhere then so be it.
"I was thinking about the 20-man squad that's going up to Sunderland and who's not on the coach, and it's a strong squad we've got, we're talking 27, 28 players now."
Hesselink, who trained over the summer at Steve McClaren's Dutch side FC Twente, has signed a two-year deal with City and could start against Sunderland on Saturday.
Asked if he was ready, Brown said: "I think he is to tell you the truth. He's trained six weeks with Steve McClaren and I'm quite surprised at how fit he looks.
"We had a game behind closed doors on Tuesday and Jan came through that with flying colours to tell you the truth.
"He looks sharp, he looks lively, he looks hungry and it would be a tremendous option for us to start him or if he plays some part later on."
