Brown fined over Riley remarks

Hull City manager Phil Brown has been fined £2,500 after being found guilty of improper conduct by the Football Association for comments he made about referee Mike Riley. Brown's outburst came after the Tigers lost 2-1 against Arsenal at Emirates Stadium in the FA Cup quarter-final. The Tigers boss then became embroiled in a bitter row with Gunners skipper Cesc Fabregas when he accused the Spaniard of spitting at Hull City assistant manager Brian Horton, although the 22-year-old was later cleared by the FA. Brown stated at the end of the match that his side had not been beaten by Arsenal but by the referee and his assistant - after William Gallas notched the winner from what Hull deemed to be an offside position - and declared that the referee was swayed by the home crowd. "At a regulatory commission hearing, Hull City manager Phil Brown was fined £2,500," an FA statement read. "Brown denied a charge of improper conduct and/or bringing the game into disrepute in relation to media comments concerning the referee Mike Riley, made following Hull's FA Cup tie against Arsenal at Emirates Stadium on 17th March. "At the hearing today, Brown was fined and warned as to his future conduct."
